Point-Receiver Seismic Solutions

The Fundamental Geophysics Behind UniQ

Exploration (Basic structural imaging)

The use of Q-Technology point-receiver acquisition and DGF processing allows a significant reduction in sensor density compared to an approach with conventional arrays. This reduction in field effort enables design and execution of fast-moving exploration projects. This perfectly complements the use of simultaneous source techniques to speed up the whole acquisition process.

Fast acquisition is not the end of the story if you want to speed up the overall turnaround time of a seismic exploration project. The integrated Q-Xpress in-field QC and processing system ensures that the generation of high volumes of seismic data is matched by real-time QC, rapid Digital Group Forming and delivery of initial processing products. The overall result is minimal turnaround time from acquisition to final interpretable exploration products.

UniQ, the latest land Q-Technology, enables the most efficient fit-for-purpose structural imaging surveys available in the world today.

Exploration (Difficult imaging)

In complex noise environments or in complex near-surface geology, Land Q-Technology enables the ultimate imaging solution. Static corrections can be derived and applied on a point-receiver basis during the DGF process, preserving the high-frequency signal content that is severely attenuated by use of conventional arrays, particularly arrays of significant aerial extent. If conventional acquisition strategies fail to deliver adequate imaging results under sand dunes, karsted limestone or other complex near-surface conditions, then Q-Technology will provide superior results.

Furthermore, point-receiver density and distribution can be selected to allow the application of digital filters to attenuate even the most severe ground roll, scattered noise, or environmental noise, such as noise from gas flares, traffic, or industrial sites.

In areas of complex geology, such as the large lateral velocity variations associated with thrust belts, or when imaging deep targets, Land Q-Technology can be combined with complementary technology to provide a tailored, optimal solution:

  • DX-80 vibrators and MD-Sweep for the generation of energetic low frequencies
  • WesternGeco SDi Prestack depth migration for imaging in complex geology
  • Multi-measurement geophysics, such a TDEM, to constrain the geological model

Appraisal and development

For reservoir appraisal and development surveys, clean prestack data enable the best possible inversion results. Furthermore, the extreme channel capacity of the UniQ acquisition and processing system enables efficient acquisition of the highest quality full-offset, wide-azimuth point-receiver surveys.

In combination with the DX-80 vibrator and MD-Sweep, low frequencies, which are critical for inversion, can be generated and faithfully recorded.
