Residual Move-Out QC (RMO QC)

Common Image Point tomography corrects velocity models by resolving residual velocity errors. RMO-QC uses a drill down approach that begins with global measures (1D), then progresses to individual gathers and RMO picks. A global distribution of the residual moveout represented as a single histogram provides the top level QC. 2D maps displaying the regional distribution identify areas of significant error.

3D volumetric QC illustrates error distributions and allows the association of moveout errors to seismic events and features. These quality displays speed-up decision making and the selection of optimum updates from tomography solutions, eliminating some migration iterations. Evaluating corrected gathers with original and predicted picks overlaid provides additional quality assurance in areas of concern.
