Moveout Stretch Compensation (MSc)

The application of moveout corrections to seismic data frequently results in the generation of low-frequency 'stretch' artifacts, particularly in areas characterized by strong anisotropy and large offset-to-depth ratios. Left unchecked, these effects can hinder accurate interpretation and introduce spurious results from AVO and inversion. However, the application of conventional stretch mutes can degrade stack response or limit offset ranges for input to the same AVO and inversion workflows.

An alternative approach is to provide a moveout stretch correction to help maximize the useful offset range while maintaining data quality. WesternGeco offers a moveout stretch compensation (MSc) workflow to compensate for the wavelet distortion that occurs at all frequencies as a result of moveout stretch. It is a deterministic method that counteracts the wavelet distortion occurring at all frequencies as a result of moveout stretch, and can be applied pre- or post- migration as part of an imaging or other reservoir characterization workflow.
