Dense Velocity Analysis (DVA)
Finely sampled grid analysis for complex velocity settings
DVA provides an alternate method to Spatially Continuous Velocity Analysis (SCVA) for deriving high-resolution velocity fields needed for prestack imaging in more complex areas.
DVA uses a guided automatic velocity picker based on the method published by Toldi (1985), using a semblance optimization approach to create a velocity cube incorporating interval velocity constraints.
Using conventional 3D velocity analysis only a small subset of the data will be sampled. For example, a 500m by 500m grid means only 2% of the available data is used. DVA can be applied at every cmp location, enabling very fine spatial sampling. Subsequent geostatistical techniques are then applied to create a highly detailed yet stable velocity cube.
The resulting velocity models can be used for final stacking, prestack time migration, the first step in a Depth Imaging workflow, pore pressure prediction, fracture/stress studies, or as an attribute for basin modeling studies.
