Compact Fourier Interpolation (COMFI)

Overview Library

Compact Fourier Interpolation (COMFI) provides a high-quality multidimensional interpolation algorithm, allowing spatially irregular input data to be output onto a set of user-defined spatial positions (regular or irregular).

This technique enables a high-quality regularization solution providing a first-class input to imaging, 3D demultiple, or 4D processing, ensuring reduced noise and improved phase and amplitude consistency.

Regularization operators are computed from a spatially compact set of input traces, and are computed from the geometry only. These compact regularization operators better reflect the local sampling regime without smearing local irregularities that may occur with a global operator

Local trace spacing can be used to determine the maximum wavenumber to be interpolated, ensuring the highest-quality interpolation of spatial frequencies supported by the local sampling regime.
