SWATT
Attack unwanted noise; Preserve signal; Enhance your seismic image
Many forms of seismic noise contaminate our seismic recordings, degrading image quality, hampering interpretation and distorting the seismic signal in advance of inversion, and other reservoir definition stages. The wide range of noise generators means that no single noise attenuation technique will work in all situations.
WesternGeco uses SWATT to attack a variety of different noise modes. These include marine swell noise, seismic interference, biological noise, ground roll, air blast, wind noise, near-surface scatterers, and cultural noise. Sophisticated time and space spectral analyses are used to identify and attenuate anomalous noise zones within the seismic record. It is a data-adaptive process, leaving the seismic record untouched in areas where noise contamination is small, while maintaining high signal fidelity.
SWATT has been successfully used around the world to enable completion of projects on schedule, when strict adherence to nominal field specifications may have resulted in weather downtime, or reshoots, or other delays.
