Using the same spectra as generated for SWAMI velocity analysis, each mode of the surface wave can be fully characterized. By migrating this back to a point it can be isolated from all other energy within a gather, including other modes of surface wave energy.
Because of the linear nature of surface wave propagation, the spectra can represent the energy even if the individual gathers are highly under-sampled.
Subtraction of the modeled energy yields highly effective coherent noise attenuation, even when applied to highly aliased data.
