Dip estimation using Plane Wave Annihilators (PWA)

High-density, high-accuracy 3D dip estimation

A dip field is required for many aspects of seismic data processing and imaging such as interpolation, signal enhancement, AVO, map migration, tomography and more. Conventional dip scanning or dip semblance methods can fail to produce satisfactory results because of poor resolution and sensitivity to noise.

WesternGeco has developed a new tool for dip estimation based on the plane wave annihilator (PWA) filters concept. Dips are estimated by solving a set of differential equations, which are established by using the dip field to destruct local plane waves. A variety of methods are available for solving the differential equations.

Dip estimation using PWA is used to analyze every sample and produce an accurate dip field without any dip limit. It also generates coherency at all analysis locations for QC.
