ECLIPSE Multisegmented Well Model

Conventional well models treat the wellbore as a single entity or cell within the model, which does not accurately represent processes occurring in the wellbore. With the continually growing number of complex wells, it becomes increasingly critical to precisely characterize and predict fluid behavior in the wellbore.

Complex wells often contain a mixture of complex devices such as flow control valves (FCV), inflow control devices (ICD), and pumps, to improve well cleanup or delay water or gas breakthrough and increase sweep efficiency of reservoir fluids. ECLIPSE reservoir simulation software robustly simulates complex well topology with its mature and advanced multisegmented well model.

Capabilities

  • Specifically designed for horizontal and multilateral wells, it can also be used to provide a more detailed analysis of the fluid flow in standard vertical and deviated wells.
  • Allows you to accurately model multibranched wells together with their comingling branch flows.
  • Allows you to correctly describe the multiphase flow in the wellbore; the multisegmented well model represents the wellbore with varying fluid mixture composition along the wellbore as a result of influx from the formation.
  • Includes wellbore friction and hydrostatic and acceleration pressures in addition to handling velocity difference between the phases due to slip.
  • Simulates flow control devices including chokes and those that react to isolate high-GOR or high-WOR regions; also simulates advanced well components such subcritical valves, labyrinth devices, and other downhole separators.
  • Can be used in conjunction with the ECLIPSE Thermal option to model the complexity of thermal recovery processes fully.
