DECIDE! Fracture Stimulation Optimization Study (Gas Field)

Sample workflow

Conduct a thorough optimization study to better understand various reservoir fracture stimulation techniques (those previously and currently used).

Challenge

Identify and gain understanding of key stimulation parameters that must be optimized. Key parameters, once identified, are available for use in determining future strategy for fracture stimulation in tight gas reservoirs.

Solution

Detailed data analysis from a representative sample of gas field wells was performed to capture in-situ (reservoir pressure, permeability, and rock mechanics) reservoir properties.

DECIDE! self-organizing maps (SOM) were used to visually represent multiple data input parameters and help determine which combinations of these parameters would potentially generate better productivity results. The study successfully optimized fracture inputs, leading to improved fracture efficiency and operational cost savings on future projects.
