TPS-PS: PILOT SCALE SYSTEMS for Treatable Studies

Overview Library

Pre-project testing technology for TPS projects

The M‐I SWACO TPS‐PS unit allows accurate pre‐project testing of Thermal Phase Separation (TPS) technology on a pilot scale. Unlike most pilot‐scale systems, however, TPS‐PS units are not designed to prove the commercial viability of a theoretical process. Instead, these units are used to provide a smaller, more economical representation of performance for a full‐scale TPS unit. TPS‐PS units are precision‐engineered to proportionately and accurately project the capability of TPS technology under field conditions.

Features

  • Incorporates the same components as full‐scale TPS units: desorption chamber, gas/liquid treatment unit and control unit
  • Compact, 4 x 7‐ft (1.2 m x 2.1 m) frame
  • Adheres to a fixed QA/QC protocol
  • Promotes objectivity and accuracy through treatability studies:
    • Test materials are generated from operator project
    • Remediation criteria are proposed by operator
    • Operators are welcome to audit tests
  • Standardized methods and accepted analytical analyses are conducted by certified independent laboratories
  • Used to assist in operator decision‐making and to confirm competitive pricing

Benefits

  • Provides accurate, reproducible projections of full‐scale TPS unit results
  • Reduces treatability study costs by performing the study on a small scale
  • Can be performed at an M‐I SWACO facility or the unit can be mobilized to any site in the world within hours
  • Ensures confidence in treatability studies through strict quality assurance procedures
