The DRILPLEX mixed-metal oxide (MMO) water-based drilling fluid system, is products engineered to provide the cost-effective performance of earlier generation mixed-metal hydroxides. Unlike its predecessors, the DRILPLEX system delivers an enhanced rheological profile and stability in a package that is easy to design, mix and maintain. The results of its unique rheological properties quickly created a growing demand for the DRILPLEX system worldwide.
With the DRILPLEX system, M-I SWACO gave the industry a water-base drilling fluid whose unique viscoelastic properties make it ideal for an array of applications. The system acts as a liquid under shear and as a solid when at rest, thereby delivering excellent hole cleaning and fracture sealing. The shear required to break the gels is well below conventional levels so, even though the fluid has unequaled solids suspension, it still screens easily, even at high flow rates.
The fluid is mixed by simply combining the DRILPLEX viscosifier with pre-screened, high-quality bentonite and other commonly available drilling fluid additives.
