NOVAWET

Wetting agent for NOVA synthetic-based muds

NOVAWET surfactant is the wetting agent used in NOVADRIL, NOVA PLUS and NOVATEC synthetic-base mud systems. It increases the preferential wetting of solids by the continuous synthetic phase. NOVAWET improves thermal, rheological, filtration and emulsion-stability characteristics while increasing the  resistance of the fluid to contamination.

The product has particular application in higher-brine-content systems and when water flows are encountered where potential for water-wet solids or high viscosity may occur.

Applications

NOVAWET functions as a wetting agent when used in the NOVA synthetic systems. It preferentially wets weight material and drill solids to prevent water-wet solids. It also improves thermal stability, rheological stability, filtration control, emulsion stability and contamination resistance.  In addition, the product may be used to aid in reducing  synthetic fluid retained on drill cuttings.

Normal concentrations range from 1 to 2 lb/bbl (2.85 to 5.7 kg/m3). The recommended treatment levels depend on the synthetic-to-water ratio, anticipated temperatures, desired properties and the other products used in the formulation.

Advantages

  • Excellent preferential wetting agent, even in low-lime/low-alkalinity fluids
  • Prevents water-wet solids
  • Compatible with all NOVA products
  • Aids in reducing the amount of whole mud retained on drill cuttings
  • Improves emulsion stability and helps prevent water in high temperature, high-pressure filtrate
  • Effective in counteracting the adverse effects of water contamination, such as high viscosity, low emulsion stability and water wet solids
  • Improves thermal stability, rheological stability, and filtration control and contamination resistance of synthetic-base systems.
