Focus on optimizing and refining all elements
Ongoing operational optimization is only possible if there are adequate systems of data management. These systems deliver information that enables both the geologic and reservoir models to be updated and planned production to be maintained.
Downstream Optimization
Heavy oil may have to be diluted before it will move through a pipeline to be processed, sometimes in a ratio as high as 1 bbl of diluent for every 3 bbl to 4 bbl of oil. And it typically must be upgraded before it can be fed to a refinery. Monitoring pipelines is an essential process and new systems enable remote and proactive monitoring of pipeline operations to detect, locate, and potentially prevent incidents or resolve them quickly.
With an almost endless range of oil viscosities, and subsurface and surface environments, choosing the best production, lifting, and transportation process can be a challenge.
Regular audits and reviews of a project throughout the life of a field ensure that the operator has selected the most appropriate well design, completion program, surface facilities, and transport design to meet the changing requirements of a project.
