Deepwater Drilling

Overview Library

Experts Certified in Deepwater Operations Run Proven Deepwater Technologies to Maximize Your Production

As your exploration and production operations move into ever deeper waters, so do our drilling services. We continually expand our suite of cutting-edge LWD/MWD and rotary steerable systems that precisely describe and efficiently drill deepwater reservoirs across the globe.

Our deepwater drilling experts have experience in the US and Mexican Gulf of Mexico, offshore Brazil and West Africa, and emerging markets such as Asia, India, and Malaysia. As each environment presents new challenges, our people and technology has combined to provide trajectory control, high-quality wellbores, shock and vibration management, and minimized stick/slip.

Better trajectory control & well placement

The PowerDrive family of fully rotating steerable systems (RSS) reduce drag, improve ROP, decrease risk of sticking, and create a smooth, high-quality borehole that makes running casing and cementing easier. PowerDrive RSS are available for hole sizes from 3 7/8 to 26 in [98.425 mm to 660.4 mm] and a wide range of configurations. Our systems are used for jet-in operations, faster riserless drilling, salt drilling, and precise trajectory control. Use PowerDrive tools to reduce drilling time and achieve higher dogleg severity (DLS).

Full view of formation—ahead of the bit

Schlumberger MWD/LWD services produce static and continuous direction and inclination measurements, downhole weight and torque on the bit, flow rate, shocks, and three-axis vibration data through high-speed telemetry. The seismicVISION seismic while-drilling-service measures interval velocity in real-time to reduce seismic uncertainty ahead of the bit. The sonicVISION sonic-while-drilling tool acquires real-time compressional and shear data to improve the accuracy of pore pressure models and mechanical earth models. And the StethoScope formation pressure-while-drilling service provides pore pressure and mobility data in the form of formation pressure and annular pressure measurements.

Real-time data is monitored and analyzed on site or at one of our remote Operation Support Centers (OSC) to adjust drilling parameters, optimize ROP, and enable drillers to reach TD in one run.
