Lyng PDC
Lyng Drilling, a Schlumberger company, produces drillbit technology in their home market of the North Sea, as well as in South America, the Middle East, and Asia. An ISO-certified company, Lyng Drilling maintains cutting-edge product development. Their ability to tailor-make drill bits for individual wells allows lowered drilling costs and improved drilling capability.
Specific drillbit design
Lyng Drilling has extensive experience with polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) drillbit designs for motor and rotary steerable applications. Balancing the key drillbit properties of steerability, stability, and durability allows successful bit design for individual applications.
To combat bit balling, Lyng Drilling offers a unique coating process called antiballing coating.
Active gauge drill bits designed for use on the PowerDrive rotary steerable system (RSS) are critical for effective side-cutting.
To avoid sudden torque spikes due to sudden changes in weight on bit (WOB), Lyng Drilling uses depth-of-cut limiting features like impact arrestors and cutter recess.
Drilling simulator software
To plan and optimize future wells, Lyng Drilling uses DROPS drilling simulator software. The service calculates apparent rock strength log (ARSL) based on existing drilling data and then simulates different drill bits and associated parameters before the well is drilled. The service uses actual drilling parameters to generate rock strength rather than electric logs, a practice that ensures quality data.
With this optimization service, customers receive a complete well/section recommendation that contains bit selection, mud program, operational parameters proposal, and other necessary analysis based on the ARSL.
