MAXR Auto Release Gun Anchor
The MAXR is primarily used to anchor HSD High Shot Density gun strings in monobore wells. It is run in the hole with either wireline or pipe and is set with standard setting equipment such as that used for packers or bridge plugs.
The MAXR can also be used in conventional completions where the guns are run into the well prior to the completion string. The gun and firing head assembly can be run independent of the completion string assembly so that the end of the completion string can be well above the guns, if necessary.
The MAXR housing replaces the firing head fill joint, and the hydraulic delay HDF or tubing-conveyed TCF firing head fits inside this housing. When the firing head is actuated and detonates the detonating cord through the MAXR, the X-type release mechanism automatically retracts the slips. The anchor and gun string drop to the bottom of the well, leaving the pipe clear of any restrictions. The MAXR and the guns can easily be fished when necessary.
In case of an emergency, a mechanical backup release is available to drop the guns and the anchor. The mechanical release can be actuated by slickline (jar up) or drillpipe stinger (jar down). The MAXR is available for 4 1/2 -, 5-, 5 1/2 - and 7-in casings.
