IPL Integrated Porosity Lithology
Integrated Porosity and Lithology Information from One Modular Tool
Simplify porosity and lithology evaluation in difficult reservoirs
The IPL integrated porosity lithology system delivers accurate formation porosity and lithology information. The system acquires neutron porosity, natural gamma ray spectrometry, density, and photoelectric effect measurements using one modular tool.
Improve gas detection in shaly reservoirs
The tool is effective in conditions difficult to evaluate with traditional wireline measurements, including
- thin beds
- shaly sands
- mixed-lithology carbonates
- high-salinity fluids
- micaceous sands
- rough or difficult hole conditions.
In a thinly bedded, shaly sandstone, the IPL system in combination with the AIT array induction imager tool detected several gas zones that conventional logging technology would have missed. The formation sigma measurement defined the extent of the shaly sand more clearly than gamma ray or spontaneous potential measurements. The density measurement and the neutron porosity profile from the component APS accelerator porosity sonde pinpointed tight streaks and a 2-ft gas zone. The AIT 1-ft-resolution resistivity measurement also showed this zone.
The CNL porosity profile is insensitive to the presence of gas in the formation.
