GHOST Gas Holdup Optical Sensor Tool

Overview Library

Directly Measure Liquid and Gas Downhole, at any Well Deviation

Get real-time answers

A member of the PS Platform production logging family, the GHOST gas holdup optical sensor tool is the ideal production logging device. It locates the first entry of liquid in a gas well or first entry of gas in a liquid well. Innovative sensing technology directly detects and quantifies gas in multiphase flows.

Understand more with fiber optic technology

The direct gas and liquid holdup measurement is independent of downhole temperature, pressure, salinity, density, dielectric properties, viscosity, resistivity, nuclear interaction, phase velocity, and well deviation. This insensitivity ensures accurate answers without downhole calibration or environmental assumptions.

Define three-phase production

In a well producing gas, oil, and water at the surface, the GHOST tool is run combined with FloView holdup measurement service to quantify the holdup of gas, oil, and water entering the wellbore and identify their entry points.

Recover costs quickly

The GHOST tool was run with the PS Platform services platform string to verify the hydrocarbon production profile plus gas and condensate. The GHOST data revealed that the upper interval was producing at the original gas/oil ratio. The lower interval was experiencing lean gas breakthrough, with a ratio more than 3 times the original. Most of the gas was from the upper 400 ft of the lower interval, which was opposite of the expected results.

A 90-ft interval of the upper section was reperforated; this added 400 bbl/d of incremental oil production without increasing the gas/oil ratio at surface. Within 2 months, the production increase recovered the job and surveillance costs.

Without the GHOST measurement to guide reperforation, there was high likelihood of reperforating intervals with high gas/oil ratios.

Benefits

  • Real-time answers for quick decisions
  • Direct measurements of gas and liquid, independent of downhole conditions and fluid properties
  • Increased operational flexibility using conveyance by wireline, tractor, slickline, or coiled tubing
  • Improved efficiency with less deferred production time
