Integrated management of water resources

Schlumberger Water Services (SWS) has developed an innovative and participatory framework for the integrated management of water resources with the broad aim of achieving efficient, sustainable, and equitable development of water resources. We have adopted a people-centered and demand-led approach from management vision, to a detailed analysis of problems and their causes, to what needs to be done to solve those problems.

Title - Sustainable management of the Usangu Wetland and its catchment 
Location
- Tanzania
Client - Ministry of Water and Livestock Development, Funding Department for International Development, UK 
Description - Working in association with HTSPE, SWS' team of local and international specialists investigated the causes of the recent seasonal drying of the Great Ruaha River and assessed the options to restore the flow regime. SWS contributed to helping the government improve resource assessment and management at regional, river basin, and local levels.


Title - Integrated groundwater management pilot project
Location
- Colombia
Client - Ministry of Environment, Funding Department for International Development, UK 
Description - Taking an integrated approach, SWS helped the government of Colombia and stakeholders at national and local levels in the Departments of the Cauca Valley and San Andres Island to plan and implement the management of groundwater resources and to control pollution. Replication of the process is continuing in the Departments of La Guajira, Sucre, and Riseralda, supported by local resources. 


Title - Planning and Environmental Management for the Pirapama River Basin, Pernambuco 
Location
- Brazil
Client - Agência Estadual de Meio Ambiente e Recursos Hídricos (CPRH), Funding Department for International Development, UK 
Description - Working in association with ERM, SWS contributed to building capacity in water resources and water quality management in CPRH, the environmental regulatory agency for Pernambuco State, and Compesa, the urban water supply utility in Recife.
